Woonsocket Man Charged With Child Cruelty After He Overdoses 8/3

An 18-month-old baby was in the backseat. North Smithfield police charged the driver, who was revived with Narcan.

WOONSOCKET, RI—North Smithfield police arrested a 31-year-old Woonsocket man after he passed out in a car with a baby in the back seat. Medics revived Michael Kaczynski with Narcan. The baby was given to his mother, and state child care workers were notified. Kaczynski was charged with cruelty or neglect to a child.

Kaczynski later told police he took two pills for shoulder pain and then began feeling ill. He pulled over. That's when North Smithfield police found him on Victory Highway. He was revived, treated at Landmark Hospital and released.

Police posted a report on the Facebook page. According to the narrative, police were called at 6:51 p.m. on Aug. 3 for a report of a possible overdose. On the following day, he went to the police station and spoke with officers. Police said he told them he was having shoulder pain and took two pills.
