Woonsocket Middle School Mourns Loss Of Secretary To Coronavirus
A secretary at Hamlet Middle School died on Sunday due to coronavirus complications.
WOONSOCKET, RI—The Woonsocket School District is mourning the loss of Leah Anne Normandin, a secretary at Hamlet Middle School, who died at Landmark Medical Center on Sunday due to coronavirus complications.
Normandin, 45, was a registered nurse who was working for the Woonsocket Education Department. According to her obituary, she was "always a caring and compassionate nurse" and "treated her patients with an abundance of kindness and love". She graduated Mount St. Charles Academy and Community College of Rhode Island, loved the culinary arts and cooking for her family, and leaves behind her parents, three siblings, fiancé, and two daughters.
"As secretary at Hamlet Middle School, Leah left an indelible mark on everyone that she encountered," said Superintendent Patrick McGee in a statement. "Leah's dedication to our school community, bright smile and kind demeanor toward colleagues, students, and families will never be forgotten."

According to the Rhode Island Department of Health, Hamlet Middle School has been on full distance learning since October 27 and Normandin had no contact with the students prior to her death.
A mass will be held for Normandin on November 28 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Help Church in Mapleville. Her burial will be private.
