Woonsocket Police Charge Two In 2016 Murder Of Constance Gauthier

Her former neighbor is one of the accused. The elderly woman was murdered in her home.

WOONSOCKET, RI—A Woonsocket man and an Attleboro man are being charged with the 2016 murder of an 81-year-old woman. Constance Gauthier was slain in her Fairfield Avenue home. Police believe she was killed on March 23, 2016. Police said she was stabbed. Tyler Grenon, 23, of Attleboro, Mass., and Matthew N. Dusseault, 20, of Woonsocket, are the accused.

They were due in district court on Wednesday to face formal charges.

Patch reported in 2016 that "neighbors told reporters that Gauthier, known as "Connie" to many, was a sweet and kind woman who kept to herself and enjoyed working in her garden." Her death rocked the neighborhood.

Grenon, who was Gauthier's neighbor at the time of the murder, reportedly led police to her body in 2016. Officers later disputed that account. The Patch reported his father told several news stations his son had seen Gauthier in her house. He looked through a window. But police said she had missed a medical appointment, and the office contacted officers. Police later found her body hidden under a mattress.
