Woonsocket Woman Arrested For Drunk Driving With Children: Police

The woman was arrested at Lincoln Woods on her way out of the park and allegedly had five children in her minivan.

WOONSOCKET, RI—A Woonsocket woman is accused of driving drunk with five children in her minivan, state police said Thursday. Leah Beatriz Duran, 41, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at Lincoln Wood State Park after one of the beach staff alerted the park police. A Department of Environmental Management officer tried to speak to her, but she allegedly tried to evade police. Duran backed into an officer's truck, police allege. No one was hurt. She was taken into custody at 3:15 p.m. Police said she blew more than three times the legal limit.

State police said five children were in the minivan. They are between seven months and 10 years old. Relatives took charge of the children, and the state Department of Children, Youth and Families was notified. Duran was released but is due in court on July 24.

· Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Liquor or Drugs, first offense, BAC .15 or Greater with a Child Under the Age of Thirteen

· Driving with Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled License

She also was cited for:

· Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Evidence of Insurance

· Reasonable and Prudent Speeds – Failure to Maintain

· License to be Carried-Exhibited on Demand
