Hurricane Irma South Carolina: See If Your School Closed

RIDGELAND, SC — Schools up and down South Carolina's coastline are closing in anticipation of deadly Hurricane Irma, which is currently barreling toward Florida.

Irma, the most powerful Atlantic storm ever recorded, is on a projected path to reach the lowcountry of South Carolina beginning early Monday morning, forecasts say. The storm is blamed for at least 10 deaths so far and was following a path that may have dire implications for Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

Beaufort County School District: Classes will operate on a half-day schedule Friday, the district said on its website. Elementary schools will dismiss at 11:45 a.m., and K-8, middle and high schools will dismiss at 12:45 p.m. All after-school events are cancelled until further notice. District schools will also be closed on Monday.

"If schools are closed on any additional days, parents will be notified in advance. Remember that information on schedule changes will always be available on the district’s website, Facebook page and Twitter feed," the district said.

Colleton County School District Schools: District leaders decided to close schools Friday to allow students, staff, and their families time to prepare, officials said on the district's website. Schools will also be closed Monday and Tuesday.

"We will continue to closely monitor this weather event and will communicate with parents, staff, and the community as frequently as possible about any changes or additional closures," the district said.

Jasper County School District: The district will be closed Friday and Monday for staff and students, officials said on the district's website. This includes all district extra-curricular and after-school events. Any possible further closures will be determined later.

Dorchester 04: District closed Friday through Tuesday.

SC Public Charter School District: Closed Friday through Tuesday.
