Charleston Area Atheltes Sign with Colleges Across the Country

Dozens of young athletes from the Charleston area committed to colleges across the country on National Signing Day Wednesday

Dozens of Charleston area student athletes committed to colleges across the country on National Signing Day Wednesday.

The largest cadre of future NCAA athletes hails from Goose Creek High School, which saw nine football players commit to college programs. They include Rashad Alston - Newberry; Deshawn Evans – Arizona Western Junior College; Rodney Garret – Brevard; Octavius Hayes – Mayville State University; Mike Myers – East Carolina University; Maliek Ravanell – Chowan; Dylan Steele – Brevard; Jalen Stevens – University of Connecticut; and Gerald Turner – University of South Carolina. A tenth Goose Creek player, Trammel Terry had already committed to attend the University of Georgia.

Seven students at Wando High School signed with college programs, Live5News reports. They include Rudder Brown - The Citadel; Chuck Rouse - Wofford; Stephen Wilson - Presbyterian; Austin Fister - Tusculum College; Nathaniel Wright - Tusculum College; RaShaun Brown - North Greenville; and Chris Leslie - Limestone College.

Five student athletes from Bishop England's AA State Championship football team signed with colleges as well. They are DeAngelo Stephenson - Towson; Nick Theos - Naval Academy Prep School; Kevin Herbst - Brevard; Zach Richter - North Greenville; and Adam Dobbins - Wheaton.

Four students from Timberland High School signed with colleges: Isaac Ferguson - Newberry; Austin McKinney - Newberry; Brian Moore - Newberry; and Roderick McCray - North Greenville.

Four Fort Dorchester High School also will be playing football at the college level next year as well including Daitwan Commodore - Carson Newman; Charles Loftland - Limestone; T.J. Smith - Fort Union Military; and Baptiste Staggers - Newberry.

Three Summerville High School football players also found homes at the college level: Jerod Tucker - Limestone College; Grant Wactor - Limestone College; and Trey Privette - Limestone College.

From Stratford High School Shawn Peace signed with Newberry.

Ashley Ridge High School all-time leading rusher Romelo Doctor also signed with Newberry. Also from Ashley Ridge Sara Butler signed with USC-Sumter to play softball.

From Academic Magnet High School five students signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday: Stuart Walters (football) - Johns Hopkins; Kallie Peurifoy (Girl's Soccer) - Virginia Tech; Jon Glenn (Boys Soccer) - Boston University; Andrew Novak (Golf) - Wofford; and Matt Houle (Golf) - Randolf-Macon.
