Charleston Moves Forward with Texting-While-Driving Ban

Public hearing slated for proposed new ordinance.

The public will get its chance to sound off on a city-wide texting-while-driving ban following a council committee vote Wednesday.

Charleston City Council approved the ban Wednesday evening, joining a handful of other communities, including nearby Mount Pleasant, in banning texting while behind the wheel.

Citizens in both Charleston and Mount Pleasant will have the opportunity to sound off on the measures before each becomes law. Charleston will hold a public hearing Sept. 9. Mount Pleasant will allow public comment on its proposal Sept. 10.
