Did you know the pH of Charleston's water is 7 - 8.3 = Dry Hair?

A high Ph water source can make your hair feel like dry straw, frizzy and make your hair color fade. Low lights and toners can fade quickly.

Recently moving back from Southern California I noticed a difference in the hair quality in Charleston. I'm a hairstylist for the past 25 plus years in both the fashion world and film and television hair styling. I have lived in NYC. San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Charleston. So my point is - all cities have a different pH of their water supply. Maybe this is why NYC pizza dough is so great.
A high Ph water source can make your hair feel like dry straw, frizzy and make your hair color fade. Low lights and toners can fade in record time. Your blonde hair doesn't have the luster when it was first done. This is due to the pH of water swelling the cuticle leaving you with rough textured hair. This is why we are so addicted to argan oils and smoothing serums, They fill the gaps caused by porosity of our hair and make it reflect light and feel smooth. The challenge becomes the serums are mostly made up of 'cones' silicone's and very little argan oil. If they were all argan that would be to much oil and you hair will get greasy. These can build up on hair and make it flat, dull and dry.
Charleston, SC. water supply maintains a pH of 7 - 8.3 according to the Charleston Water Department. This is the culprit of most of your hair challenges.

Tip 1.
At home try leaving a small pea size of your conditioner in hairs mid shaft and ends. Conditioners tend to have a low pH and can help get hairs pH closer to a balanced level while reducing the hairs swelling and
frizzyness of hair.
Tip 2.
This is for you hair colorists out there or kitchen Beauticians. After rinsing the color product after a color application add conditioner to the hair first rinse then shampoo, repeat conditioner. This will help get the hair back to a better pH so your not lathering all the color out down the drain.
