Fifth Grader Dies After Fight At S.C. Elementary School: District
The student was airlifted to the hospital where she died Wednesday morning.

WALTERBORO, SC — A South Carolina fifth grader died on Wednesday after a fight at a Forest Hills Elementary School classroom in Walterboro on Tuesday, according to the school district.
The student was airlifted and taken to the Medical University of South Carolina for treatment after the fight, school officials said. According to the district, school administrators ended the fight and called EMS to the scene.
"We are devastated by this news, and we want our communities to keep their thoughts and prayers with the student’s family at this time," the school district said in a statement.

Local news channel WYFF4 reported that the child was identified by the coroner's office as Raniya Wright.
Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office told the news channel that they were investigating an assault between two students.

The school district said a student from the school has been suspended.
