As hurricane Matthew batters the South Carolina coast, officials are warning of a cyber security threat involving emails that residents might receive with information about flooding.
Gov. Nikki Haley said during a press conference Saturday that the situation apparently began overnight.

"People will start receiving emails and they will tell you they have updates on outages and if you want to know the update on outages, click here," Live 5 News reported, quoting Haley's remarks at the press conference. "Once you click there, they get into your computer."
Residents who do not know the sender should delete the email and not click on the link.
