It's Only a Play uses the occasion of a disastrous Broadway opening night party to pile one wildly comic sequence upon another. It’s alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender. "These are among the funniest lines to roll off a stage in years!" - New York Times.
Plot: It’s opening night of "The Golden Egg," the latest comedy by rising playwright Peter Austin, & his rich-but-inexperienced producer is throwing a star-studded celebration at her East Side brownstone. On hand are Peter’s best friend (a wisecracking TV star), the play’s flamboyant leading lady, a bratty British director, a pompous theater critic, and a starry-eyed coat check attendant who has just arrived in New York. These first-night partygoers keep crossing paths in the producer’s sumptuous bedroom as they wait for the play's all-important reviews to come in.

One-liners skewer everyone from Liza Minnelli & Lady Gaga to Harvey Fierstein & Daniel Radcliffe, along with almost every currently running hit show. It’s absolutely not necessary, however, to be a Broadway expert in order to enjoy It’s Only a Play. The jokes fly fast and furious in playwright Terrence McNally’s farcical valentine to people who make a living (or try to) in the theater.
