CHARLESTON, SC — She's the one that loved you first, but mom is much more than that. She’s a friend, a teacher, a counselor, a shoulder to cry on — and maybe one of the toughest women you’ve ever met.
We asked Patch readers in more than 1,000 communities to tell us what their moms mean to them. Nearly 200 people responded, paying tribute not just to moms but sometimes to grandmas, sisters and daughters who deserve recognition for Mother’s Day 2021.
Here’s what Vonda Gadsden Danley of Charleston had to say about mom Paulette Backmon of Charleston :

Hi mom, As your only child I always feel that I fall short of showing you HOW MUCH I need and apprecitiate you. You are always there, not just for me but the ENTIRE family. Although you are the youngest of all your siblings, you were always that ONE. The organizer, the donator, the leader, the champion, MY MOM. So calm, smart, and elegant. Such a lady. I thank you for all your many sacrifices to make my life GREAT. If I had the world it means you have the universe. You are forever giving, so I write this letter of admiration, thanks, and love. Until my last breath, my last thought, and I will let it be known my mother is the greatest and I am so very proud to be your daughter..
