Memorial Service for Raymond "Sugar Ray" Morris Wednesday

Raymond "Sugar Ray" Morris of James Island died Sunday, a memorial is planned for him on Wednesday night.

Raymond "Sugar Ray" Morris, 79, of Charleston, SC died on Sunday, July 28, 2013.

He was born  April 17, 1934 in Charleston, SC, and was the son of the late Herman Morris and the late Mabel Murphy Morris. He was the husband of Rose Brabham  Morris.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeffery Todd Morris and his wife, Tess Hoffman Morris, and Michael Gregory Morris; two grandchildren, Taylor Ray Morris and Meghan Ann Morris and one sister, Joann Tomberlin of Lexington, SC. 

An Army veteran, he was a member of the Elks Lodge 242 and coached Little League football for many years at the James Island YMCA. He was an avid Shag dancer, a lover of rhythm and blues and boasted an extensive collection of baseball memorabilia. His greatest love, next to Rosie and his sons, were his two grandchildren.

His family invites friends to attend a Celebration of Ray's Life to be held Wed., July 31, 2013 from 6pm to 8pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home James Island Chapel, 347 Folly Road, James Island, SC 29412.
