F-35B Crashes In South Carolina

The plane crashes in Beaufort County, according to the sheriff's office.

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC — A military plane crashed in Beaufort County, South Carolina on Friday, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash was reported near Clarendon Road and Joe Allen Drive in Grays Hill around 11:45 p.m., officials said.

The plane's pilot safely ejected and is being evaluated for injuries, the sheriff's office said. No other injuries were reported and the crash scene has been secured.

The sheriff's office asked residents to avoid the area of Little Barnwell Island and the Grays Hill Boat Landing.

The Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort said the aircraft was a 2D Marine Aircraft Wing F-35B.
