Potential Earthquake Investigated In South Carolina: Officials
Breaking: Residents around the Charleston area heard a boom and felt their homes shake Monday afternoon.

CHARLESTON, SC — A potential earthquake Monday afternoon in South Carolina is being investigated by officials.
Reports of a boom and a shaking came in near Charleston just after 4 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
Officials with the NWS said they have not received any confirmation yet of an earthquake from the US Geological Service.

"We are monitoring this situation closely," the NWS Charleston office said in a tweet.
According to a meterologist with ABC News 4, it's more likely that he sound was a sonic boom from the strong military aircraft presence in the area.

The NWS in Charleston has received a number of inquires of a possible earthquake felt around parts of the Charleston Metro Area about 15-20 min ago. As of yet, we have not received any confirmation from the @USGS. We are monitoring this situation closely. #chswx #scwx @SCEMD
