SC Military Family Enjoys a Magical Night
For these USC fans, the Gamecock's win over Georgia was sweet. But this emotional homecoming in front of nearly 86,000 people was even sweeter.
At each South Carolina Gamecock home football game, the Columbia Metropolitan Airport selects its 'Military Family of the Game.'
With the honor comes a videotaped message from a family member serving overseas, beamed to the family and the Williams-Brice Stadium crowd over the facility's massive new high-definition TV screen.
The Faile's, of Kershaw, were the lucky family picked for South Carolina's historic thrashing of Georgia this past Saturday night in Columbia.
If the Faile's, proud Gamecock fans, were surprised and thrilled by the final outcome of the game, which saw the Gamecocks destroy the Bulldogs 35-7, they were even more surprised and thrilled by what happened before the game even kicked off.
As Afghanistan war vet, Sgt. First Class Scott Faile, addressed his wife and two children on the stadium TV screen from his current base in South Korea, he told them, prophetically: "I really would like to be there to watch the Gamecocks beat up on the Bulldogs…. Just keep in mind that my tour is almost over — and I'll see you real, real soon."
Little did the Faile's realize just how soon that "soon" would be.
In the attached video above, (which has since gone viral, with nearly 116,000 views since Saturday night) see what happened next.Â
And try — just try — not to shed a happy tear or two.
