Shark Bites 15-Year-Old Boy In Garden City

The boy was swimming in shallow water.

A 15-year-old boy was bitten Thursday by a shark in Garden City, witnesses on the scene said.

Capt. Jerry Howerton of Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire told Patch that the boy was surfing in the water when he was bitten on his leg. When he tried to swat the animal away with his arm, the shark bit him on the hand.

Howerton said the boy suffered a bit on his left calf, ankle and hand. The department got a call about the attack around 12:30 p.m.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries but was bleeding when paramedics arrived and was treated on the scene.

Howerton said that they can only call it a “marine attack” now, until marine experts can further assess the situation, but witnesses on the scene said it was a shark that but the boy.
