Voters Head to Polls in Senate District 42 Primary

Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday to select Democratic and Republican nominees for Senate District 42, the seat previously held by Robert Ford.

Ford resigned in the spring amid an ethics investigation.

Democrats must choose from among six candidates: Emmanuel Ferguson, Herbert Fielding, Marlon Kimpson, Margaret Rush, Bob Thompson and Maurice Washington. The candidates met last week in a feisty debate on the campus of Trident Tech.

For Republicans, the choice is a little more simple--Billy Shuman is the only candidate on the GOP side of the ballot.

Considering there are six Democratic candidates, it seems likely that none of them will reach fifty percent of the vote plus one, which will necessitate a run-off on Aug. 27. The candidate that wins the run-off will compete in the general election on Oct. 1.
