Update: All USC Classes Cancelled After Power Outage

All classes have been cancelled.

Update, 11:22 a.m.: All classes at the University of South Carolina have been cancelled for the rest of the day. 

The university released the following message through the Carolina Alert System:

"Early this morning, a power outage occurred on campus. Due to continued power outages and impact from the outage, all classes have been cancelled on the Columbia campus for the remainder of today (July 12). Faculty and staff working in affected buildings should not report to work and are asked to contact their immediate supervisor for modifications to work schedule."

USC emergency personnel and SCE&G workers are on the scene and are working to restore power. University Technology Services is also working to restore any computer servers that may have been affected by the outage, according to the release.

Power will be restored to affected buildings and systems will be brought back online throughout the day.

A large power outage at the University of South Carolina has cancelled classes for Friday morning and impacted work schedules for employees.

Classes are cancelled campuswide until 11 a.m.

Employees at the following buildings should not report until 11 a.m.:

1700 Block of  College St, BA Building, Barnwell, Byrnes, Calcott, Capstone, Coker, Columbia Hall, Gambrell, Hamilton, Hollings, Honors, Buildings on the Horseshoe, Humanities classroom, Jones Physical Science, Longstreet theater, Russell House, Spigner House, Sloan, Thomson Student Health Center, Osborne and Wardlaw.

Early this morning, a power outage occurred on campus.  Due to the power outage, all classes have been cancelled campus-wide until 11:00 a.m. (July 12, 2013).  Faculty and staff working in affected buildings should not report to work before 11:00 a.m. or are instructed to contact their immediate supervisor for modifications to work schedule.

The general impact area is east of Assembly Street, west of Harden Street, north of Blossom Street, and south of Gervais Street -- with the exception of the Graduate Science Research Center and Sumwalt.

Affected buildings:

1700 Block of  College St, BA Building, Barnwell, Byrnes, Calcott, Capstone, Coker, Columbia Hall, Gambrell, Hamilton, Hollings, Honors, Buildings on the Horseshoe, Humanities classroom, Jones Physical Science, Longstreet theater, Russell House, Spigner House, Sloan, Thomson Student Health Center, Osborne and Wardlaw.

Phone voice service may also be interrupted in the affected buildings.

1716 College
1718 College
McMaster College
Kirkland Apts.
Taylor House
NAC

University of South Carolina emergency personnel and SC Electric and Gas workers are on the scene and quickly working to resolve the situation. University Technology Services is also working to restore any computer servers that may have been affected by the outage.

Power is estimated to be restored to affected buildings by 11:00am.
