8 Killed on S.C. Roads During Labor Day Weekend

No deaths reported on S.C. Interstates.

Eight people were killed on South Carolina roads over the long Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

None of the deaths occurred on the state's network of Interstates, and all but two of the fatalities occurred in cases where motorists were no wearing their seatbelts.

As of September 2, 472 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 552 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012.

Of the 312 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2013, 184 were not wearing seat belts. 

Through midnight September 2, 54 pedestrians, 80 motorcyclists and eight bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.

The Labor Day numbers are preliminary and could grow as more reports are collected from all over the state.
