A Trip of a Lifetime

Wren High Senior Logan Finley discusses a life-changing trip she took this summer with TOMS Shoes

Logan Finley, a senior at Wren High School, experienced a life changing opportunity this summer.   Here are a few of the details from Logan regarding her experience:

“I traveled with TOMS Shoes, a company with a one-for-one model, for every pair of shoes they sell, they give a pair away to children in need.  Also, for every pair of sunglasses sold, a free cataract surgery is performed  for those found under the line of poverty.

I won TicketToGive 2013 (the giving trip) by acquiring votes over a 3 month voting period. The competition was worldwide and over 10,000 applicants applied, but only 50 were chosen.

I gave over 100 pair of shoes to children living in impoverished areas in Paraguay, including; orphanages, schools, and homes.

I witnessed cataract surgery and also had the privilege of walking with a woman side by side through the entire process. I was able to experience the emotional removal of her bandages as she saw for the first time in over 13 years.

I played with children from sunrise to sunset, and even though we had a language barrier, a welcoming smile is universal.

I spent my days in Paraguay learning about the culture and leaving my mark on a country that is in need of a loving, smiling face.

I was able to affirm my love for foreign mission work, and will be planning three more trips this year.

The TOMS giving trip is the trip that started it all for me.”  Logan Finley
