After Easley Man Dies In Tussle With Deputies, State Probing
Relatives reported in May that Randall Scruggs was acting irrationally. Pickens County deputies were called to state Highway 11 near Sunset.

PICKENS, SC — An Easley man struggled with Pickens County sheriff's deputies during an arrest earlier this year and later died at a hospital. Three months later, state authorities are investigating his death.
Randall Dale Scruggs, 42, died from compression of his abdomen during the May 28 arrest, Coroner Kandy Kelley said Monday. Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark said in a news release that he asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate.
Clark said in a statement late Monday that one of Scruggs' relatives reported he was acting irrationally and his deputies were called to state Highway 11 near Sunset. The deputies tried to keep Scruffs calm during a struggle, but he constantly tried to escape.
