Congressman Duncan Shares Thoughts about Pennies With R.C. Edwards Middle Students
Duncan shared his thoughts on whether the United States should continue to make and use the penny.
Seventh grade teachers Rachel Gregory and Lauren Moore invited Congressman Jeff Duncan to speak to students at R.C. Edwards Middle School on Friday, September 13, 2013. Duncan shared his thoughts on whether the United States should continue to make and use the penny.
Mrs. Gregory and Mrs. Moore, who teach a research and enrichment class at R.C. Edwards, created a project where students analyzed the penny problem. Students researched positive and negative reasons for keeping the penny. Students wrote a business letter to share their opinion by using facts about the penny.
Congressman Duncan spoke to students about the penny problem at the end of this project. He described the bill writing process and the journey of a bill through Congress. Duncan also shared what his job is like on a daily basis. At the end of the presentation, Mrs. Gregory and Mrs. Moore presented Congressman Duncan with a booklet of student letters to petition the existence of the penny.
