EASLEY, SC — A mother found dead with her children inside a locked and running SUV shot another woman to death hours earlier in Greenville, South Carolina who worked with her estranged husband, authorities said.

Jessica Edens had her son and daughter with her when she fatally shot Meredith Rahme, 28, in a downtown Greenville parking garage around 5 p.m. Thursday, Police Chief Ken Thomas said in a news conference.

Edens, 36, was in a custody battle with her husband, Thomas said. He called police earlier this week to check on his daughter. (For more local news, click here to sign up for real-time news alerts. If you have an iPhone, click here to get the free Patch iPhone app.)
