Greenville Tech to Offer Flicks for Thought

Film series begins on February 7.

The “Food for Thought” film series is coming to Greenville Technical College.

Each screening will pair a film with thoughtful discussion afterwards, led by a person versed in the field that the particular film covers.

Each screening night will begin with refreshments at 5:30pm, then the film will begin at 6pm, followed by a 30-minute discussion.

The first film in the series is Hungry for Change.

In the film, medical and nutritional experts offer proven strategies to prevent and reverse disease through healthy foods to escape the diet trap forever.

Keri Moore of Whole Foods Market will lead the discussion.

On February 14, Vanishing of the Bees will be discussed. The film explores the possible relationship between pesticides and the sudden disappearance of honey bees from hives worldwide.

The discussion will by lead by Buddy May of May Farms, LLC.

Community of Gardeners will be shown on February 21. The film explores the vital role of seven urban community gardens in the Washington, DC area as a source for fresh nutritious food.

Reece Lyerly of Gardening for Good will lead the discussion.

A free film series will be offered to provoke thought and discussion. Each movie night begins with refreshments at 5:30 p.m., the showing at 6 p.m., and a thirty-minute discussion to follow. Free RSVP at www.flicksforthought.com

 Genetic Roulette will be shown on February 28. The film explores the role of genetically engineered foods in rising disease rates in the US.

Afterwards Dr. Sriyani Rajapakse, Biological Sciences Professor, Greenville Technical College will lead the discussion.

Movies will be shown on the college’s Barton Campus in building 102. This series is sponsored by Greenville Technical College, Whole Foods Market, Greenville Organic Foods Organization (GOFO), Natural Awakenings, Shafer & Huguley and Green City Creative.
