Hearing Aid Batteries Available to Those In Need

Sam Wyche has thousands of hearing aid batteries to give out and wants to connect with individuals and groups who need them

Do you know someone who wears a hearing aid? They probably go through a lot of hearing aid batteries, an expense that can add up.

Former Cincinnati Bengals Head Coach Sam Wyche was recently back in Ohio for a golf tournament and connected with a company that had some extra hearing aid batteries.

Proctor & Gamble provided a school for hearing-impaired children with hearing aid batteries and also had batteries for adults that the school did not need.

Wyche said he'd take the batteries for the adult hearing aids off their hands.

“I have acquired a skid of number 10 hearing aid batteries,” he said. “Not the hearing aids, the hearing aid batteries. They're number 10, which I'm told is the most common adult size. I'm trying to find a place to share them. We're going to do it with the nursing homes, we're going to do it with the senior citizens.
How many batteries does Wyche have to give out?

“There are 1,400 batteries in each box and I've got like 75 boxes of them,” he said. “About a year's supply would be about 80 to 100. That's a lot of people.”

The batteries are good through 2016, Wyche said

“That doesn't mean they turn bad, that's just when they don't guarantee them, after 2016,” he said.

The batteries will first be given to Pickens County Meals on Wheels clients, but there's plenty to go around.

“As long as you're not reselling them. They cannot be resold,” Wyche said. “My idea was, maybe there's someone in need, one way or another. 'Here's a one-year supply of hearing aid batteries.' Well, that saves them a ton of money. Usually those things last about a week and you wear one in each ear.”

The offer is not limited to Pickens County residents.
