'Scene 107' Homecoming at Southern Wesleyan University

Alumni, their family and friends will be the stars of Southern Wesleyan University's homecoming next month.

‘Scene 107’ – Homecoming at SWU

Southern Wesleyan University’s 2013 Homecoming will be an event starring our alumni, their family and friends.

This year’s Homecoming will be “on location” at Southern Wesleyan’s Central campus and will include a film festival, performances of favorite movie themes and a chance to meet a graduate who is a filmmaker. According to Joy Bryant, executive director of alumni and constituent relations, the “Scene 107” theme title was chosen to commemorate the university’s 107 continuous years of providing educational excellence in a Christian environment.

Laura Tossey Austin, producer of “Turned Upside Down,” will talk about her film, which will also be shown as an afternoon matinee. “Turned Upside Down” is a moving story about a man who looks back at a rough time in his youth when nothing seemed to go his way.

Laura answered the call of directing, producing and writing Christian films, plays, and dramas in 2011. Her husband, Chris Austin, directed and Laura wrote their first live drama “The Judgment” in 2011 that included on stage acting and video portions based on the testimony of six church members. The Austins’ projects include multiple videos to “My Own Little World” (Matthew West), “This is the Stuff” (Francesca Battistelli), and “Praise You In This Storm” (Casting Crowns) in 2011 as well as promotional videos for Mansion Builders and Cornerstone Arts.

In addition to writing and producing, Laura has a master’s degree and a doctorate in physical therapy from Texas Women’s University.

Alumni and their families are invited to share a meal and reminisce during one of several reunion luncheons taking place that day. Then all are invited to cheer on the Warriors during volleyball and soccer games on campus.

“We would like to welcome the public to join us as Southern Wesleyan University celebrates our homecoming,” Bryant said. For a complete schedule, go online to swu.edu/homecoming or contact the Alumni Center at 1-800-282-8798, ext. 5384 / e-mail jcrain@swu.edu.
