USTA Tennis Play Event in Easley to Celebrate World Tennis Day
Pope Field Park in Easley will host a USTA Tennis Play Events in celebration of World Tennis Day, a nationwide effort to get families excited and active in tennis. During the month of March, the USTA will invite families and kids of all ages and skill levels to try tennis at local events and facilities across the country—encouraging everyone to get on the court and in the game.

BACKGROUND:
World Tennis Day on March 10 serves as a kickoff to the Play Events. World Tennis Day is a celebration of tennis around the world and is held in conjunction with the BNP Paribas Showdown at New York’s Madison Square Garden featuring 17--time Grand Slam singles champion Roger Federer taking on rising star Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in one match, and tennis legends Monica Seles and Gabrielle Sabatini squaring off in the other.
“World Tennis Day is a wonderful platform to inspire healthy and active lifestyles for families throughout the country,” said Kurt Kamperman, USTA Chief Executive, Community Tennis. “The thousands of USTA Tennis Play Events in celebration of World Tennis Day are part of USTA’s continued commitment to provide opportunities to bring more kids and their families into the game.”
Studies have shown that an early, positive experience in sports is vital to combatting physical inactivity and to creating a lifelong commitment to an active lifestyle. More than 1,000 facilities will host USTA Tennis Play Events in March, showcasing how fun and easy it is for families to get into the sport of tennis. These events also will allow parents to sign up their children for spring and summer tennis programs.
The USTA is making it easier and more fun for kids to get into the game—and stay in the game. With tennis now sized right for age and skill level, kids play on shorter courts, with smaller racquets, and slower, lower-bouncing balls. Kids are able to play tennis made just for them, so they have a great time and want to keep playing and improving.
