Walk in Peace

My best friend stopped by to see me today. I met him when my wife Martha and I first moved to the Upstate about eight years ago. We hit it off right from the start and now we both catfish off the banks of the Saluda River every chance we get. I knew my friend had already suffered two heart attacks, and he was telling me how he thought he had another heart attack, and he would surly die soon. As we talked he did look bad, but he did not seem nervous nor upset. He told me that at death there is a great calmness and that earthly matters seem trivial.
I noticed a great change in my friend and also saw a difference in his spirit that can only come within the spiritual realm. When I asked if he had seen a doctor, he just looked me in the eyes, smiled and said, "No William, I was in a complete win situation. If I die, I win - If I live, I win". At that very moment I knew that my friend had indeed found peace with everyone and everything around him, but not only that, he had made peace with our Creator. There is no doubt in my mind that he found the window to the centering spot of his soul.
Now, I am bad to become attached to things. I have a special place to put things so that I will not lose them. Always carefully keeping a watch when my wife drives, that she does not damage our car. I take care of all my pets so they will not get lost, have an accident, or get sick and die. You know my friend, losing things hurts. Then one by one, my pets grow old and die. My car wears out and has to be replaced. My family and friends die, the doctors and hospitals do all they can, but there is no way around loss.
I shed my tears and go on. However, knowing that loss is just around the corner, the joy of each and every moment, each and every love one, and each and every special "thing", becomes a passion. Walk in Peace - William
