Berkeley County: One of Nation's Fastest-Growing

Berkeley County is one of the country's 100 fastest-growing counties.

That's according to U.S. Census figures released Thursday that show the county grew an estimated 6.7 percent from 2010 to 2012 — that's the 35th fastest among all U.S. counties.

Berkeley County added nearly 12,000 residents from April 1, 2010, to July 1, 2012, according the Census. That gives the county 189,781 residents.

Berkeley wasn't alone. Dorchester County was the country's 97th-fastest-growing with 4.4 percent growth.

The Charleston three-county metropolitan area grew at 4.9 percent — the 12th-best among the country's metros.
