Boeing Reps Talk Future with Marrington Students

Mini career fair features Boeing.

Each month Marrington Elementary School hosts a monthly mini career fair that emphasizes careers in science, technology, engineering and math, otherwise known as “STEM.” The school counselor,  Ann Schuler, invites speakers from businesses throughout the Lowcountry to come and speak to the 5th grade students.

For the final Mini Career Fair, Marrington students had the honor of hearing representatives from BOEING. Leslie Kirkland who is a Staff Analyst and Walter Fields who is an Industrial Engineer and LEAN Practitioner spoke to students about the process of creating, manufacturing, and flying the planes that BOEING is famous for.  Both speakers emphasized the importance of doing well in science and math so that later on students would have the tools to be successful and ultimately work for BOEING.

Mr. Fields told the students that the goal of BOEING is to build a legacy for the people of South Carolina, so that they could someday return and be where he was standing. Following a question and answer session, students were given the opportunity to make their own paper dream liners and fly them.
