A Berkeley County detention officer faces allegations of striking a restrained inmate.

SLED agents arrested Billy Wade Biering, 49, Tuesday on one count of Assault and Battery Third Degree. The charge is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 30 days in jail, a fine up to $500 or both. 

The alleged incident occurred May 12, 2012. According to the warrant, Biering allegedly struck an inmate several times — which was captured on video records,
The case will be prosecuted by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor's Office.
