A Goose Creek veteran will travel to Washington, D.C., this weekend to take part in a protest against the federal government's shutdown and its closure of the World War II memorial, Count on 2 News reported.
"We as American(s) should not be putting up with this kind of garbage from the United States government this is our country is not the United States government's country,"Â Larry Courtney told Count on 2.
Courtney earned five purple hearts for his service to the U.S. Army.
Last week, another group of veterans crossed the barricades surrounding the memorial. The federal government has reopened some of the memorial since then but the barricades remain.Â
