How To Act, Think, And Speak When You Are With Someone Tricky

James 4:3,7,8,11,12,17

You ask and you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives. Submit to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.  Cleanse your hands, you sinners…and purify your hearts, you double minded. Do not speak against one another, brethren.  He who speaks against a brother judges him.  Who are you who judge your neighbor?

God wants you to be at peace with the people in your world.  When you just flat out don’t like someone, it makes you feel sick and colors all of your interactions because you feel irritated all the time and thus put out a negative aura.  When you are concentrating on how much you don’t like someone, you certainly don’t have the energy or the desire for spreading love and light and accomplishing that which you were uniquely created for.  You just wish that person would go away.  But God says that wishing for someone’s speedy departure is the wrong thing to pray for.  You have to pray instead to stop judging them.  When you are judging another person, you are thinking that somehow that person isn’t measuring up to your expectation.  But you can’t change another person.  That’s God’s job (if He thinks they need changing), not yours.  When you try and change someone, all you’ll feel is frustrated. In order for you to heal yourself when your spirit turns dark, you must let go of wishing that something or someone was different.  All those negative thoughts are just the devil working on your heart to steal your joy so you won’t be any good to anybody.  And guess what?  You can’t go around talking about your mission and spreading love and light when all you are thinking about is how much you don’t like someone or how mad you are.  That is being “double minded.” You may be talking a good game, but God knows differently because He sees your secret heart.  So the next time you are in the presence of someone that you just don’t care for, immediately turn to God and ask Him to soften your heart and give you the will and the strength to say only kind words: words that He would want you to say. It is the only way for you to ultimately be at peace.  In the end, you and that person will be better for it.
