And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself.
Sometimes you know exactly what you want. The choice is clear. You know the name of the “mountain” you wish were gone from your life and you know the “desire of your heart” that you wish you could attain. But what about those times when you don’t even know what to ask for because you can’t see far enough down your road to know what the consequence of each choice would be? Let’s say, for example that you’ve had a big disappointment. You thought everything was set and your life was moving in a certain direction and then something happened and things didn’t work out, what do you do now? Or you feel confused because you don’t know what option you are being presented with would be the best choice for you and/or your loved ones. When you have no idea which direction to go, or what to specifically ask for, look to the ultimate Fortune Teller, Counselor and Guide: the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit “intercedes for you with groanings to deep for words,” to find out what God’s will for you life is. That means He knows how to find God’s plan for you. And that’s what you want. You don’t want to pick and settle for what is behind Door Number 1, when the real prize, God’s perfect will for your life, is behind Door Number 3. So when you don’t know what to ask for or where to turn, this is what you pray, “God, I don’t even know what to ask for. But I know that you know what is best for me. Please direct my life in the way you want it to go. Open my eyes so that I don’t miss my signs, signals, and the people you are sending to direct me. Help it to be really clear.” And then be on the look out. When you start feeling anxious, just keep repeating the prayer. Don’t dwell on the “things of the flesh,” which are life’s disappointments, the negative forces that bring your spirit down. Set your mind instead on faith, hope, and love, which are the “things of the Spirit.” Turn over your life’s direction to the Holy Spirit. He will whisper into your spirit God’s perfect plan for your life and flood your soul with peace while you wait.
