Submit Your Application Now for Citizens Academy

Classes begin Sept. 10.

The Goose Creek Police Department is seeking applicants for its upcoming 8week Citizens Police Academy. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, and ending Oct. 29, 2013.

The Citizens Police Academy is intended to further trustbased relationships between the police department and the citizenry by offering citizens a "behind the scenes" look at the Police Department and its operations. Citizens will not learn to be police officers but they will develop a deeper understanding of agency operations and why citizen interaction and cooperation with the police are vital to reducing crime and keeping our community safe.

A variety of topics will be covered including, but not limited to, driving under the influence (DUI), criminal domestic violence (CDV), officer selfdefense, fingerprinting and DNA, evidence, patrol procedures, special weapons and tactics (SWAT), criminal investigation operations, traffic enforcement and safety operations, and ethics overview. There will be plenty of time built in for question and answer sessions.
