When Anxiety Comes Transform Your Mind And Keep Your Eyes On The Prize

Romans 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Finally, brethren, whatever is whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.

Matthew 17:20

If you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

With every new day you have a chance to begin again.  The night is filled with darkness, but inevitably morning comes.  It might not always be sunny, but with each day comes the chance to start over.  You might not love something that is going on in your life, but here’s the thing:  whatever is bothering you is in fact, in your world for now. The more you dwell on how much you don’t like something, the worse you will feel.  Your joy will be stolen, your peace will be gone, and consequently you won’t feel like glorifying God by doing all the wonderful things you were uniquely created to do.   When you feel anxiety, resentment, or uncertainty start to creep in, stop and repeat the following verse: “Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you can prove what the will of God is.”  What that means is that God doesn’t want you to be in a funk because He loves you and you aren’t any good to Him in a funk.  And that is exactly how Satan wants you to be:  bitter, complaining, and overwhelmed.  That’s why God tells you to transform your mind.  But how do you actually do that?  The first step in transforming your mind is to pray.  Specifically ask God to point the eyes of your heart in a better direction.  Believe that He can do just that.  God promises to move a mountain if you believe.  If He can move a mountain, God can certainly direct your mind to a more positive place. Next, move your thoughts.  Think about anything good that has ever happened to you. Let your mind wander to how you would like your life to be and then ask God to help you come up with some specific steps to make those changes come about.  And finally, be on the look out for your signs and signals, for the very real evidence that your prayers have been answered. Keep your eyes focused on your prize; your goal; your plan.  Look at your distant island of paradise, not the imaginary barrier reefs that are trying to hold you back.  Then start swimming in that direction.  And when you feel yourself start to sink, just keep repeating your verse which will remind you that with God’s help you can transform your mind and swim towards your happily ever after.
