Electric City Playhouse (ECP) proudly announces non-Equity auditions for Hello, Dolly!. Book by Michael Stewart, Music and Lyrics by Jerry Herman based on the book The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder.

Auditions will be held Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 2:30pm to 5:30pm, and Monday, October 14 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm with Callbacks on Tuesday, October 15th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Auditions will be held at ECP, 514 N. Murray Avenue, Anderson, SC 29625.

You are encouraged to bring a non-returnable headshot and theatre resume and prepare 16-32 bars from a Broadway musical other than Hello, Dolly!. Please bring sheet music in the correct key; a cappella singing is not allowed. Be prepared to dance/move, so dress accordingly. You may be asked to read if needed.

Seeking 18 to 25 adult actors; strong singers with dance/movement ability.

Hello, Dolly! will run May 1 through May 17, 2020; Fridays/Saturdays at 7:30pm; Sundays at 3pm. Performances will take place at the Electric City Playhouse 514 N. Murray Avenue in downtown Anderson.

SYNOPSIS

The musical follows the story of Dolly Gallagher-Levi, a strong-willed matchmaker, as she travels to Yonkers, New York to find a match for the miserly, well-known, unmarried, half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Dolly Gallagher-Levi (stage age: 40 to 65) Charming, meddling matchmaker. A widow in her middle years who has decided to begin her life again. Excellent comic timing.

Horace Vandergelder (stage age: 45 to 65 yrs.) Proprietor of a hay & feed store, and a client of Dolly Levi. A widower of some means. Comic baritone singing.

Irene Molloy (stage age: 25 to 50 yrs.) A milliner with a hat shop in New York City. Dolly has introduced her to Horace Vandegelder but she yearns for romance. A legit or belt high soprano voice.

Cornelius Hackl (stage age: 25 to 45 yrs.) Vandergelder’s chief clerk who yearns for one exciting day in NYC. Some legit baritone singing. Good comic timing.

Minnie Fay (stage age: 18 to 30 yrs.) A young woman who works in Irene’s hat shop. Some singing and a featured dance role.

Barnaby Tucker (stage age: 18 to 30 yrs.) An assistant to Cornelius at Vandergelder’s Hay & Feed store. Some singing and a featured dance role.

Ermengarde (stage age: 16 to 25 yrs.) The young niece of Horace Vandergelder. She cries often and wants her independence.

Ambrose Kemper (stage age: 18 to 25 yrs.) An explosive young artist seeking to marry Ermengarde.

Earnestina Money (stage age: any) An accommodating and eccentric-looking girl in need of Dolly’s matchmaker services; set up on a date with Horace Vandergelder. Characterful and powerhouse personality; good comic timing. A non-singing role but will also perform in the chorus.

Rudolf Reisenweber (stage age: 30 to 65 yrs.) The major-domo of the Harmonia Gardens Restaurant. A non-singing role but will also perform in the singing chorus.

Mrs. Rose (stage age: 40-70 yrs.) Sells vegetables and a friend of Dolly’s from years before. A non-singing role but will also perform in the singing chorus.

Judge (stage age: 30-65 yrs.) White-whiskered night court judge. Easily moved to tears by romance. A non-singing role, but may also perform in the singing chorus.

Ensemble (16 to senior) We are looking for singers & dancers who will also play featured character parts (both speaking and non-speaking) throughout the show. Needed types include: NYC townspeople, feed store customers, Harmonia Gardens customers, waiters and staff, various colorful 14th Street Parade characters. Hello, Dolly! features lush choral singing for both mixed voices and an all-male ensemble. Previous experience singing vocal parts is helpful.

ANTICIPATED REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

Rehearsals will begin in February and will primarily be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:30pm with some Saturdays (morning or afternoon) and Sundays (afternoon or evening). Tech week is April 26-30th, 2020.
