Greenville Implementing Holiday Traffic Management Measures

With the holiday season quickly approaching, and so many popular shopping destinations located on Woodruff Road, the City of Greenville is again taking preventive measures to help manage traffic. Beginning today (Nov 15), left turn movements will be restricted on Woodruff Industrial Lane (between the Academy Sports/Home Depot parking lots and the Target parking lot) to improve congestion and safety at the Woodruff Industrial Lane/Woodruff Road intersection. This measure will remain in place throughout the holiday season.

On Wednesday, November 20, electronic message boards will be placed on Woodruff Road, Verdae Boulevard and Roper Mountain Road to advise motorists to use the new Parallel Parkway, which runs from Verdae Boulevard to Woodruff Industrial Lane, as an alternate route. Parallel Parkway’s three roundabouts prevent vehicle back-ups and with no driveway cuts, Parallel Parkway allows traffic to flow freely by eliminating turns off of and onto the roadway. Parallel Parkway also intersects with Green Heron Road and Ketron Court, allowing motorists to access major destinations at various points along the Woodruff Road corridor.

To help manage traffic flow on Woodruff Road, the Greenville Police Department will be closely monitoring key signalized intersections, like the ones around Magnolia Park and The Shops at Greenridge, on Black Friday weekend (November 28 – December 1).

Motorists are encouraged to plan their trips to Woodruff Road for times of day when there is less congestion (weekday mornings between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. and Saturday mornings before 10 a.m.) and to use alternate routes such as Parallel Parkway, as well as Roper Mountain Road, Carolina Point Parkway, Market Point Drive, Miller Road and Garlington Road. Drivers are also reminded to follow all traffic laws, including not blocking intersections.
