Winston Churchill Portrayed

FREE Event on Saturday, June 16!

“Winston Churchill had a way of boiling down the most complex situation or idea into an easy to understand and thought provoking statement of truth. Churchill is the most notable international public figure of modern day. His long and respected career is being remembered this Saturday at the airport. This family friendly, interactive and entertaining event will teach about an important time in our history. I can’t wait!” stated Joe Frasher, Airport Director of the Greenville Downtown Airport.

“Danger gathers upon our path. We cannot afford – we have no right – to look back. We must look forward.” - Winston Churchill, December, 10 1936 (https://winstonchurchill.org/resources/quotes/we-must-look-forward/)

“Churchill understood the value of science and technology. Immediately following the development of sustained flight, he was convinced that air routes were essential to save time. He pushed for commercial air mail and passenger service from Cairo, Egypt to then Karachi, India, which was under British rule but is now part of Pakistan. This trip took over 11 days by sea. In contrast, by air it could be made in just two or three days. It is interesting to note that today this journey by air can be made in just 6.5 hours! Our industry has come a long way,” stated Lara Kaufmann, Associate Director of the Greenville Downtown Airport.“Churchill also saw the benefit of flight during military conflicts. Aircraft could be used to locate enemy troops and report back their movements to military leaders. They also propelled fighting upward and inland, away from trench warfare based front lines, which often took a tremendous loss of life to try and break,” added Kaufmann.
