Deputies Search for Suspects Targeting Dodge Vehicles
Sixty-five Dodge vehicles have been broken into or damaged in the Broad River Road, Harbison Boulevard and Dentsville areas since June 1.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Friday that dozens of Dodge vehicles were broken into over the summer and deputies need your help to find the suspects.
Sixty-five Dodge vehicles have been broken into or damaged in the Broad River Road, Harbison Boulevard and Dentsville areas since June 1, Lott said.
The thieves are targeting Dodge Challengers, Magnums, Avengers, and Chrysler 300s. The suspects enter the vehicles by damaging the door on the driver’s side.

Investigators are interviewing victims, witnesses, and following up on leads and forensic science to determine who may be responsible, Lott said.
Multiple groups may be responsible for committing these crimes in Richland and Lexington counties and the City of Columbia, according to the department. Â Â Â

The sheriff’s department offered these tips to help protect your vehicle:  Â
- Remove your keys and take them with you.
- Park in well lighted areas – not near bushes, trees, dumpsters or side streets whenever possible.
- Never leave your purse, briefcase or gym bag in your car. Place them in the trunk; never leave valuables in plain sight.
- Always lock your vehicle doors after entering and leaving the vehicle.
- Never leave your vehicle running, even if you will only be gone for a minute.
- Completely close all vehicle windows when parking.
- Never leave the registration or title in your vehicle.
- Install an anti theft device or system on your vehicle as an extra deterrent.
- Before getting into you car, check the backseat and floor. Get into your vehicle and lock the door immediately before settling yourself or packages.
- Never leave your garage door opener inside your vehicle, especially if your car is parked in front of your house.Â
