The Dutch Fork High School varsity girls’ tennis team has picked up an impressive
preseason victory, winning a high school tournament featuring some of the best teams in South Carolina and North Carolina.
The Silver Foxes defeated Bishop England 5-1 Sunday in the championship match of the Florence Tennis Association girls tournament. Sixteen teams from South Carolina and North Carolina competed in the matchup.
Dutch Fork beat standout team Providence Day from North Carolina in the 3rd round, winning 4-2. In the finals, the Silver Foxes beat Bishop England, another strong team that has won 2A state titles for the past few years.
“I am so proud of the girls,” said Gina Hilts, Dutch Fork varsity girls’ tennis coach. “The win this past weekend in Florence is due to the fact that we have so many that work hard during the off season as well as during the season. All of them contributed to the win. If they were not on the court playing, they were watching and letting me know what to tell their teammates in order to help them during the match. This team is driven to win.”
