Irmo Woman Competes in Scottish Highland Games
Tartan Day South is taking place this weekend at the Historic Columbia Speedway in Cayce.

Adriane Wilson, a four-time World Highland Games champion, will compete Saturday at Tartan Day South in Cayce.
Wilson, a former shot put and discus star, fought for a spot on the 2004 Olympic track and field team, but didn't make it, according to a report in The State. She was diagnosed with cancer, Hodgkins lymphoma, that year. Although she still pushed herself to get in shape for the trials, she didn't make it to the top three.Â
But Wilson has found her niche in Highland games, an ancient demonstration of strength and skill that involves throwing poles, stones and other heavy objects, according to The State.Â
