Police Charge 4 in Chapin Shoplifting Ring
Four people are accused of stealing cell phones, energy drinks and cigarettes from stores in the Chapin area.
Four people are facing charges in connection with a shoplifting ring, according to the Chapin Police Department.Â
Antwone Anderson, 33, Isaac Potter, 24, Carmella Harding, 32, and Donnie Furtick are accused of stealing cell phones, cigarettes and energy drinks from various stores in the Chapin area.Â
Police say the four people went to the Verizon store located at 130-A Chapin Road on July 27 and stole seven cell phones worth $2,800. Potter asked where the restroom was, according to police, and the other three people distracted the employees while Potter went to the storage area and took the phones.Â
On Aug. 19, Anderson, Potter, Harding and Furtick went in Food Lion at 140 Chapin Road and took cartons of cigarettes worth $1,875, according to Chapin Police. Two of them distracted the cashier, while the other two took the cartons of cigarettes.Â
Police say the four also went to the Pitt Stop at 648 Columbia Ave. on Aug. 19 and stole 5 Hour Energy drinks worth $420. Two of the people distracted the cashier by asking for directions, while the other two stole the energy drinks from the floor and counter.Â
An officer with the Irmo Police Department stopped the four people when they were driving through Irmo on Aug. 21, according to the Chapin Police Department. The officer recognized their car from a description that was released after the Aug. 19 shoplifting at Food Lion.Â
Some of the stolen items were recovered from the vehicle, according to Chapin Police.
The four people were arrested. Anderson, Potter and Harding were booked at the Lexington County Detention Center. Furtick was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Anderson is charged with grand larceny and two counts of shoplifting. Potter is charged with two counts of criminal conspiracy. Furtick is charged with two counts of shoplifting and criminal conspiracy. Harding is charged with three counts of criminal conspiracy.Â
