Staying healthy, combined with the desire to learn and be present, equals perfect attendance for Yasmin Friday. She graduated Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from Ridge View High School in Richland School District Two with 12 years of perfect attendance. She attended Sandlapper and Catawba Trail Elementary schools, Summit Parkway Middle School and Ridge View High School. Each South Carolina school year consists of 180 days, which means Friday was present for some 2,160 days.

Friday says she never got sick and never wanted to miss a day of school. “My mother and family members always supported me and have been pushing me forward from an early age. I want to continue this trend throughout my life and never miss a day of work, or school in college,” she said. Aspiring to be a surgeon, Friday will be attending Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans as a Biology Pre-Medicine major. Through the Richland Two AVID Early College, Friday is leaving high school having already earned an Associate’s degree in the Arts from the University of South Carolina-Sumter valued at $25,376. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. Her mother, Linda Friday Jennings says, “I know that it wasn’t easy, however she never gave up. I am so proud of her and all that she has accomplished. She is such an amazing daughter.” Two years ago, Ridge View High School graduate Chasity Thomas was the only Richland Two senior to maintain a perfect school attendance record in the class of 2019.
