Batesburg-Leesville Man Killed in Weekend Crash

The accident occurred at approximately 9:35 a.m. Saturday on Broad Street in Batesburg.

The Lexington County Coroner's Office has identified the person who died in a single-vehicle crash in Batesburg-Leesville Saturday morning.

Christopher Otto, 21, of Batesburg-Leesville, died from injuries he received in the accident, Coroner Harry Harman said in a release. 

The accident occurred at approximately 9:35 a.m. Saturday on Broad Street when a 2001 Mitsubishi, driven by 23-year-old Nicholas Otto, ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned then struck a utility pole, South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said.

Both Christopher Otto, who was a passenger in the vehicle, and Nicholas Otto were flown to Palmetto Richland Hospital.

Nicholas Otto was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries, Jones said. His condition is unknown. Christopher Otto was wearing a seatbelt.

The accident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
