Free Bus Fares for Lexington County Pilot Route Start Monday
The free fares are made possible by a donation from a community member.

Fare for Lexington County's pilot bus route that runs from downtown Columbia to Lexington's Red Bank Crossing will be free starting Monday.
The route, 26B, will be free thanks to a donation from local community activist and pastor Bishop Darrell Croft, the county announced Friday.
A CMRTA bus offers roundtrip service three times a day on Mondays from Downtown Transit Center in Columbia to Lexington's Red Bank Crossing at 1070 S. Lake Drive - where the Health Department, Department of Social Services, and Lexington-Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (LRADAC) are located.
Officials recently extended the pilot route to run through Sept. 30.
The bus departs from the Transit Center every Monday at 8:15 a.m., 12 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., and now has six stops between the Transit Center and Red Bank Crossing:
- City of Cayce:
- Knox Abbott and State Streets
- 12th and Poplar Streets
- City of West Columbia:
- Sunset Boulevard and Craft Street
- Lexington Medical Center (West and North Hospital Drives)
- Town of Lexington:
- Walmart and Chick-fil-A (Sunset Boulevard)
- Lexington County Administration Building (South Lake Drive and Myers Way)
The pilot bus route is made possible through a partnership between the County of Lexington, the cities of Cayce and West Columbia, Lexington Medical Center, and the Town of Springdale.
