Gilbert Primary Gets New Principal
Mylisa Apperson, currently assistant principal at Midway Elementary, will serve as principal at Gilbert Primary for the 2013-2014 school year.

Gilbert Primary School has a new principal for the 2013-2014 school year.
The school board approved the promotion of Mylisa Apperson, who is currently assistant principal at Midway Elementary School, at their meeting Tuesday.
Apperson has 13 years of education experience, beginning her education career in 2000 as a third-grade teacher at Woodlawn Elementary School in Clarksville, Tenn.

She joined Lexington One at Midway Elementary in 2004 where she taught third grade. In 2006, she transferred to Pleasant Hill Elementary as a third-grade teacher when it opened. In 2007, she began serving as an elementary literacy coach for Pleasant Hill Elementary and Oak Grove Elementary and, in 2008, was promoted to the position of assistant principal at Midway.
Apperson graduated cum laude from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education (English). She has a Master of Education in supervision and leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., and holds certifications in elementary, elementary supervisor and elementary principal.

She is a member of the Palmetto State Teachers Association, Columbia Area Reading Council, South Carolina Association of School Administrators, ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) and Delta Kappa Gamma/Beta Beta Chapter.
