Lexington County Deputies Seek Help in Solving 2009 Murder

Detectives are seeking evidence that would enable them to establish probable cause to obtain arrest warrants.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department needs help with its investigation in the shooting death of a 21-year-old Gaston man in 2009.

Andrew Phillip Powell, 21, of 225 Goodwin Road was shot and killed in his home on Sept. 24, 2009.

At 4:26 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2009, deputies arrived at Powell’s home after Powell’s stepfather, Billy Mack Powell, reported that he had arrived home at about 4 a.m. and found that Andrew Powell was not breathing and might be dead, Sheriff James R. Metts said. Deputies found Andrew Powell dead, lying on his back in the corner of the home’s living room.

Detectives have identified persons of interest in connection with the fatal shooting, which they believe was not a random act.

Metts said detectives continue to investigate the motive and circumstance of the fatal shooting.
