Midway Elementary Gets New Assistant Principal
The board approved the hire of a new assistant principal at its meeting Tuesday.

Christy Mays will serve as assistant principal at Midway Elementary School for the 2013-2014 school year.
The Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved her hire during its regular meeting Tuesday night.
Mays currently serves as curriculum coordinator and assistant administrator at Newberry Elementary School in the School District of Newberry County.

She has 13 years of education experience and began her education career in 1999 as a second-grade teacher at Myrtle Beach Elementary School in the Horry County Schools. In 2002, she moved to Myrtle Beach Middle School as a sixth-grade mathematics and science teacher. In 2007, she transferred to Conway Middle School as mathematics and science instructional coach. In 2010, she moved to Saluda Middle School in the Saluda County Schools as a sixth-grade science and social studies teacher. She moved to Newberry Elementary in 2011.
Mays has a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Coastal Carolina University and a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina. She holds certifications in elementary teaching and elementary leadership.

Mays is a member of the National Middle School Association, the South Carolina Science Council and the South Carolina Center for Teaching Mathematics.
